In a not so surprising study done in England, researchers “discovered” that men and women drink differently, yet their lifetime frequencies were similar. What this really means to me is that as we age as a population we tend to drink less intensively, but more frequently in smaller allotments over time. This confirms many suspicions that we all may have noticed over our own lifetimes. What really concerns me is that these researchers were alarmed by these data, and were talking about intervention of some sort. This sounds like the neo-prohibitionists are at it again, getting ready to battle the boogey man of alcohol imbibition by responsible adults. While no one condones binge drinking, many in the neo-prohibitionist foray are determined to lump daily beer drinkers into the same category as binge drinkers. So we should all be made aware that there may be a rise in activity by those who criticize our pursuit of our favorite adult beverages, and take action to delimit their scare tactics to the authorities. Cheers!
