While reading the current Oregonian about breweries making efforts to be more sustainable, I came across this little bit on Science Daily News. Looks like another good reason to drink those wild and crazy beers from Bear Republic! This only makes sense as breweries need a lot of natural resources to make beer. So more sustainability in the breweries just makes both economic, and social sense. All we can do as homebrewers is feed the carbon dioxide we generate to our house plants. Also, we can compost grains, and yeast, and even recover our cooling water for future reuse. The average homebrew of five gallons creates a little over two pounds of carbon dioxide during the fermentation cycle. Hopefully the future will be brimming with newer ways to brew, and result in better beer, and a better world in the process.
